If you have ever planned a vacation to Walt Disney World® Resort, then you know how complicated the process actually is. Disney vacations should be magical and stress free, so here are the 7 Secrets To A Successful Walt Disney World Resort ® Vacation.
1. Increase Your Walt Disney World Resort Knowledge
Walt Disney World® Resort has so much to offer for every member of the family. Disney vacations can be expensive, and for some people, they can be far and few between. When planning a Disney Vacation, you want to make sure you will not be wasting time or money.
To make sure you are fully prepared for your Walt Disney World ® Resort vacation, you can do one of two things:
1. Do Your Own Research
If you plan on booking and planning your own trip, you are going to need to do hours and hours worth or Disney research.
Make sure you learn what every park has to offer (rides, attractions, dining options, character meetings, park hours, etc.), benefits of each resort, transportation options, itinerary ideas, and much more.
2. Use A Travel Agent
You can skip doing all of the research yourself, and use a travel agent (like me!). Many travel agents have complementary travel concierge services.
You can let your travel agent know your party size, budget, and what you want/ expect to get out of your vacation. Once you let your travel agent know all of the details, they will take care of the rest for you.
There is a reason that travel agents booking Disney Destination Vacations must graduate from Disney’s College of Knowledge. There is so much that goes into planning a vacation to a Disney Destination, so skip the stress and frustration, and let a travel agent take care of all of the planning and details for you.
If you decide you do want to plan your own vacation, you can still use a travel agent. You can do as much of the planning as you would like, but your travel agent will always be there to answer your questions, and step in if you need any help. Your travel agent will also be able to be on the look out for new promotions and Disney news that can help you with your vacation planning.
2. Create The Perfect Itinerary
Walt Disney World® Resort is very large, with surprises around every corner. The parks have many rides, attractions, characters, and dining options. The resort hotels have pools, splash areas, dining options, arcades, and playgrounds. The resort as a whole has many transportation options, special events, entertainment, shopping areas, and much more.
If you go to Walt Disney World® Resort, you are sure to miss many great attractions. It is very important to plan out your days, so you get to see and ride everything that every member in your family wants to.
Without an itinerary and plan, you will spend time wandering around, trying to find the attractions you want to see, standing in line, or waiting around for a show to start.
On the other hand, you do not want to over plan. If you over plan your Walt Disney World® Resort trip, you will be setting yourself up for failure. Unless your trip is weeks long, you probably won’t be able to see everything.
If you plan out every minute of your trip, you are bound to be stressed when your wait for one attraction is longer than expected, and you are behind schedule.
Make sure to plan for surprises, relaxation, and unplanned exploration.
3. Book Everything Ahead of Time
Booking everything ahead of time goes hand in hand with creating the perfect itinerary.
If you are staying on Walt Disney World® Resort, you can make your FastPass selections 60 days in advance. For those of you are staying off the resort, you can book your FastPass selection 30 days in advance.
If you are staying on or off Walt Disney World® Resort, you can book your dining reservations 180 days in advance.
These are the first things you want to put on your vacation itinerary, and plan everything else around your reservations.
It is important to book ahead of time, because it is very difficult to get FastPass and dining reservations closer to your travel dates.
If you do not plan ahead, you will waste much of your vacation time standing in line.
4. Use My Disney Experience
As soon as you make your $200 deposit, you can link your vacation to your My Disney Experience account.
Here you will be able to see the theme park maps, attractions, entertainment options, dining options (with menus), character locations, and where everything else is located at Walt Disney World® Resort.
My Disney Experience is your key to unlock all of the magic that Walt Disney World® Resort has to offer! When it is time, you can book your FastPass selections and dining reservations here.
When you are at the theme parks, My Disney Experience will keep track of your location, show you attraction wait times, allow you to put in a mobile order at many restaurants, and much more.
5. Get To The Parks Early
If you are at the theme parks at rope drop, you can head straight to popular attractions, and have very short wait times.
If you are not a morning person (like myself), try to make an exception during your Walt Disney World ® Resort vacation. The benefits of getting to the parks early are worth it.
Once the midday rush begins, you can head back to your hotel for an afternoon swim or nap.
6. Schedule Days To Relax
Vacations are meant to be relaxing and get you away from your everyday life. Although going to the Disney theme parks are magical, exciting, and fun, they can also be exhausting and overwhelming.
If you try to conquer 4 theme parks in 4 days, you will burn yourself out. By the fourth day, you will be exhausted and unmotivated to see everything the park has to offer.
Make sure to schedule at least one off day, where you can relax at your resort hotel. The resort hotels at Walt Disney World® Resort can be a vacation by themselves.
If you have the time to plan an even longer trip, you can schedule days to explore the Downtown Disney® Area or other day attractions in the Orlando area.
7. Take advantage of Walt Disney World® Resort Freebies
Not everything at Walt Disney World® Resort is expensive. There are many freebies you can take advantage of, some freebies are:
- Disney’s Magical Express® Transportation (if you are staying on Walt Disney World® Resort)
- Monorail, boat rides, and buses
- Firework shows
