Walt Disney World® Resort is definitely the most magical place on earth. For some people, it is a vacation that is far and few between, and for others, it is a once in a lifetime vacation. Planning a Disney Vacation can cost a lot of money, so don’t waste any of your vacation time. One way to do this, is to attend the Magic Kingdom Rope Drop.
What Is The Magic Kingdom Rope Drop?
You can enter the Magic Kingdom® Park 60 minutes before the park is actually open. During this time, you will not have access to the entire park, but you can explore Main Street U.S.A and the area right in front of Cinderella’s Castle.
Once the park is officially open, you can head right into the land of your choosing to get your day started.
Why Would You Want To Attend Magic Kingdom Rope Drop?
1. Extra Time In The Park
As I mentioned above, you will not want to waste any time on your Disney Vacation. When you attend the Magic Kingdom Rope Drop, you will be one of the first people to be able to enter the park. The only people that will be in the park before you, are people that are staying at Walt Disney World® Resort, and taking advantage of the Extra Magic Hours Benefit.
Magic Kingdom® Park has many rides, attractions, dining options, shops, and photo opportunities. This is a lot to do in one day. I recommend that you have two days at the Magic Kingdom® Park. The park has so much to offer, that it is even a lot for two days.
The more time you have in the park, the more magic you can be a part of, the more rides you can ride, and the more attractions you can see.
2. The Park Is Not As Busy
Many first timers that do not use a travel agent will not know about attending the Magic Kingdom Rope Drop. Additionally, this is the time that many families are sitting down to eat breakfast, or they are just waking up.
This means that the transportation options will be less crowded and move faster. This also means that as soon as the park opens, the lines for popular attractions will be shorter.
3. Explore The Magic
The most magical feeling in the world is walking into the Magic Kingdom® Park and seeing Cinderella’s Castle. It doesn’t matter if it is your 1st trip or your 20th trip.
If you arrive early for the Magic Kingdom Rope Drop, you will have time to admire the castle without feeling rushed to head to the rides and attractions. You have all the time in the world to sit and dream about living in Cinderella’s Castle yourself.
You will have time to walk through Main Street U.S.A., take pictures, and do some shopping.
4. Let The Magic Begin Show
If you attend the Magic Kingdom Rope Drop, you will be able to see a free show called Let The Magic Begin.
This show has many of the characters, small fireworks, and really gets you in the magical mood!
When you first arrive, you can pretty much walk straight up to the castle, and have front row seating for the show! Once the show is about to start, it will get a little more crowded.
Let The Magic Begin lasts about 5 minutes, and the rest of the park opens up immediately after the show.
Magic Kingdom Rope Drop Tips
1. Get There Early
Yes, you need to be early to be early, got it?
Even when you are arriving early for the Magic Kingdom Rope Drop, you still need to prepare for transportation times and getting through security.
The early morning hours are less crowded than normal park hours, but it still takes time to make it to the park.
You will also need to go through security, although the lines move pretty quickly, you will still spend some time standing in line.
2. Don’t Skip Main Street U.S.A.
Many first timers get so eager to see Cinderella’s castle, that they speed through Main Street U.S.A. without stopping and admiring the shops.
If you arrive early enough, you will have plenty of time to explore Main Street U.S.A, still be able to see Cinderella’s Castle, watch Let The Magic Begin, and head into the rest of the park as soon as it opens.
3. Get Your Photos In Front of The Castle
Waiting for the rest of the Magic Kingdom® Park to open, is a great time to take photos in front of Cinderella’s Castle.
There will be less people, which makes for better photos! There are plenty of PhotoPass points along Main Street U.S.A., and in front of Partner’s Statue.
4. Have A Plan
When the entire park officially opens, people will flood into the lands. Make sure you know which direction you are heading and what rides you want to ride.
If you spend your time wandering around, you will be defeating the purpose of arriving early.
When you are waiting for Let The Magic Begin to start, you should look at the My Disney Experience App, and double check the map. It is easier to understand the layout of the park when you are standing in the middle of it.
5. Stay By The Entrance To The Land of Your Choosing
If you have a fast paced morning planned, and you want to ride as many popular rides with short lines as possible, make sure to stand by the land of your choosing to ensure you are one of the first people inside once the “rope drops.”
If you want a more relaxing morning, you can stay by Cinderella’s Castle to watch Let The Magic Begin, and then head to the land of your choosing.
The lands clockwise around Cinderella’s Castle include: Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. Most guests will head right to Tomorrowland and Fantasyland.
Below you will find popular rides, that will have shorter lines first thing in the morning.
- Jungle Cruise
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Splash Mountain
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- Haunted Mansion
- Peter Pan’s Flight
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- Space Mountain
- Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
Whatever ride is most important for you to get on is the direction you want to head first. Keep in mind that if you have a FastPass for a ride in one land later in the day, you can head to a different land to start your day.
6. Focus on Popular Rides With Short Lines
Now, you might be thinking, “Well yes, Alison, you just told me that,” but let me explain.
First thing in the morning, the park will be less crowded, and you can have very short wait times for many popular rides. But let’s say you arrive at the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and the wait is already incredibly long, you can either spend your time standing in line, or you can head to some of the other popular attractions and ride multiple rides.
The first few hours of the day, is the best time to ride as many rides as you can. The best option would be to ride multiple rides instead of spending this valuable time waiting for just one ride.
7. Don’t Use FastPass
When you schedule your FastPass selection, don’t waste them for early ride times. You will be able to walk right onto many of these popular rides first thing in the morning. Instead, make your FastPass selections for times later in the day when the parks get busier.
8. Stick To One Area
If you choose to head to Adventureland first- tackle the Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, and then head to Frontierland or Liberty Square.
With this method, you will maximize your time.
If you choose Adventureland to ride the Jungle Cruise, then head to Tomorrowland for Space Mountain, and then head back over to Frontierland for Splash Mountain, you will spend a lot of valuable time walking instead of riding.
To maximize your riding time, make a path around the park, instead of jumping back and fourth.
